Your Most Valuable Gifts

Hi All,

This time just before the holidays often becomes crazy, as we make final
preparations for celebrating the season. Often we try to get things perfect,
only to get tired and drained. Other times running around at the last minute
might be hazardous, due to the weather.  Like today, in St. Louis, snow is
pelting down.  Actually far more important than material items and good food
are the gifts we have of each other.

Take a moment to reflect. When you consider last year, what has touched you
the most? How has it impacted your intentions for next year?  Let your loved
ones know, and thank them.  It might be an act of service,-- like my sister
who helped me with my garden, or a back rub at just the right time. Other times
it might be a special photo, words of encouragement, or giving each other quality
time. Often these kinds of gifts are taken for granted and receive little attention.
Yet, they are the most valuable gifts of all. The giver may not even know the gifts
they gave. When you let them know, both of you can celebrate them.

Most gratifying to me this year is the growth I have seen in the people with
whom I work. I am always amazed when I see the resilience that comes forth when individuals and families tap into their strengths. You can see it in the twinkle of their eyes, the smiles on their faces, their enthusiasm in sharing new discoveries, and their creativity in finding new solutions. When shared, these gifts are amplified and magnified in our experience of community.

The gifts of spirit are enduring, badly needed, and when cultivated, are abundant in supply.  They have no impact on the environment and do not drain your pocket.  Take time to discover them and acknowledge them.  They will give you much joy this season.

Happy Holidays,

Dr. Alice
